IPC Designer Certification

IPC CID (CERTIFIED INTERCONNECT DESIGNER-BASIC)

The IPC-2220 Series (“Generic Standard on Printed Board Design”) is a series of IPC standards by which printed circuit boards are designed. IPC is an American institute that ensures that all knowledge is distributed worldwide by certified IPC trainers through their IPC standards, IPC training programs and IPC teaching materials. The IPC-2221 is a standard by which designers design printed circuit boards so that the Gerber files (the design drawings/data) at the printed circuit board manufacturer’s side are properly understood on their production machines. Almost all printed circuit board designers around the world work according to this standard(s). If you need further knowledge in the design of printed circuit boards, printed circuit board materials, surface finishes, thermal mass, electrical clearances, distance to the edge of the printed circuit board, tolerances, tests, markings, plugging/tenting of vias, master drawing (design drawing), solder mask, reliability, environmental aspects etc. then this standard is the right one for you.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO LEARN HOW TO DESIGN A PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD (PCB)? YES YOU CAN!

This standard is used for the design of a new electronics product in the design department and sometimes also as an entry check at the circuit board manufacturer (the company that produces bare circuit boards). If the design drawings are incorrect, the printed circuit board manufacturer cannot produce properly, which means that the assembler cannot properly solder the components and, as a result, in the worst case the electronic products fail prematurely. A good design is the basis of a good quality end product. The CID training is a training that trains a student/participant as a Certified Interconnect Designer (CID). This means that the student has a lot of knowledge about design rules (design guidelines) afterwards.

This training is suitable for people who work in the design department. The CID certification training consists of two parts. The first part is preparation at home, the second part is 3 training days and at the end of the training the participant writes a final exam (110 questions multiple choice). The minimum score to succeed is 73%. When the participant has obtained his/her CID certificate, that certificate is valid forever. With this IPC certificate you can work as a CID (Certified Interconnect Designer) all over the world. Just like a driver’s license, this IPC certificate is internationally recognized. If someone is interested in additional (advanced) training, the CID+ training is suitable for this. The CID is the designated person who discusses and solves problems with customers.

This means that the student has all knowledge about design rules (design guidelines) afterwards. This training is suitable for advanced (design specialists) who work in the design department.

The CID+ certification training consists of two parts. The first part is preparation at home, the second part is 3 training days and at the end of the training the participant writes a final exam (120 questions multiple choice).
