IPC J-STD-001 Certification

IPC J-STD-001 CERTIFIED IPC SPECIALIST (CIS)

The IPC J-STD-001 (“Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies”) is the most famous production standard of IPC. IPC is an American institute that ensures that all knowledge is distributed worldwide by certified IPC trainers through their IPC standards, IPC training programs and IPC training materials. The J-STD-001 is also referred as “the IPC production standard” by which all assembled printed circuit boards (electronics) are produced, inspected and delivered. Virtually all assembly companies around the world that solder components onto the printed circuit board produce according to this standard. When you need further knowledge in the assembling of THT/SMT- components, process background information (e.g. maximum machine contamination, air humidity, types of solder connection inspection methods and maximum product damage, amount of contamination on the end product (cleanliness), process control, etc. .), this standard is the right one for you. This standard is used during the production process of the assembler (the company that assembles and solder the electronic components on the bare printed circuit board (PCB)) and sometimes also at the final assembly companies (the company that buys assembled printed circuit boards (PCBA) and installs those in the final housing (Box building)).

WOULD YOU LIKE TO LEARN HOW TO SOLDER? YES YOU CAN!

The IPC J-STD-001 CIS training is a practical training (solder-training) by which a student/participant is trained as a Certified IPC Specialist (CIS). Various practical assignments apply to this training. In these practical sessions the participant receives various soldering exercises such as: soldering wires to different types of terminals (connection points), soldering through-hole components (conventional components), soldering SMD components, cleaning and practical inspection of all soldered connections made with the correct magnification power (microscope / loupe). After completing this training, the CIS can solder various components, work with this standard and assess all products with it. This practical training is suitable for people who work as an operator/inspector in an electronics assembly company, but also for managers who need more practical experience and/or background knowledge in the production process so that they can coordinate this knowledge better with the customer.

The CIS certification training is a modular training and lasts approximately 4 days, at the end of each training module the participant writes a final exam (multiple choice). If the participant has passed the exam of the mandatory module (s) with a minimum score of 70%, he/she will receive an IPC J-STD-001 CIS certificate for this. All further (optional) modules are listed on this IPC certificate, including the practical assessment. With this IPC certificate you can work as a CIS (Certified IPC Specialist) all over the world. Just like a driver’s license, this IPC certificate is internationally recognized. The certificate is valid for 2 years, you can extend the certificate validation by participating an IPC recertification training. The CIS recertification training can take place in a shorter period of time (at least 1 day). The IPC J-STD-001 CIS can independently solve practical problems in the department.

IPC J-STD-001 CERTIFIED STANDARD EXPERT (CSE)

The IPC J-STD-001 (“Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies”) is the most famous production standard of IPC. In these practical sessions the participant receives various soldering exercises such as: soldering wires to different types of terminals (connection points), soldering through-hole components (conventional components), soldering SMD components, cleaning and practical inspection of all soldered connections made with the correct magnification power (microscope/loupe). This means that afterwards the student is not only an expert in this standard but also has practical skills in soldering. This training is suitable for people who have a lot of experience in electronics.

The CSE certification training takes about 4 days, at the end of the training the participant writes a final exam (100 questions multiple choice). If the participant has passed this exam with a minimum score of 80%, he/she will receive an IPC J-STD-001 CSE certificate for this. With this IPC certificate you can work as a CSE (Certified Standard Expert) all over the world. Just like a driver’s license, this IPC certificate is internationally recognized. The certificate is valid for 2 years, you can extend the certificate validation by participating an IPC recertification training. The CSE recertification training can take place in a shorter period of time (at least 1 day). The IPC J-STD-001 CSE is the designated person who discusses and solves customer problems.

DO YOU WANT TO TEACH SOMEONE HOW TO SOLDER? YES YOU CAN!

The IPC J-STD-001 CIT training is a practical training (solder-training) by which a student/participant is trained as a Certified IPC Trainer (CIT). Various practical assignments apply to this training. In these practical sessions the participant receives various soldering exercises such as: soldering wires to different types of terminals (connection points), soldering through-hole components (conventional components), soldering SMD components, cleaning and practical inspection of all soldered connections made with the correct magnification power (microscope/loupe). The CIT will receive a complete training kit from IPC after the training by which he/she can continue training. This training package only contains IPC teaching materials (so no IPC standards, solder-equipment, microscopes, printed circuit boards, components, etc.). This training is suitable for people who have a managerial position or a lot of experience and/or want to transfer the knowledge to their staff/colleagues. If the participant has obtained his CIT certificate, then he/she must give at least 1 IPC training (including practice) per year.

The CIT certification training takes about 4 days, at the end of the training the participant writes a final exam (100 questions multiple choice). If the participant has passed this exam with a minimum score of 80%, he/she will receive an IPC J-STD-001 CIT certificate with all related training material for further training. The practical assignments must also be completed with at least 80% correct. With this IPC certificate you can work as a CIT (Certified IPC Trainer) all over the world. Just like a driver’s license, this IPC certificate is internationally recognized. The certificate is valid for 2 years, you can extend the certificate validation by participating an IPC recertification training. The CIT recertification training can take place in a shorter period of time (at least 1 day). The IPC J-STD-001 CIT is also the designated person to discuss and solve customer problems.
